Description

The Bewick's wren is about 14 cm long, is grey-brown above, white on the belly, with a long white eyebrow. This wren holds its long, barred tail up high. The bill is long and slightly curved.

Behaviors

This is a noisy, hyperactive little bird that hops from branch to branch in the shrubs flicking its long tail. They are master vocalists will belt out a string of short whistles, warbles, burrs, and trills to attract mates or their defend territories. It might also just be scolding a visitor to the reserve!  

Fun Facts

Courting Bewick's Wrens form monogamous pairs that set up house together and forage together. Adult males stay to guard females from visiting other males. In about 30-60 days, fledgling males learn to sing by listening not to Dad, but rather neighboring adult males.
