Description
Despite its name and grass-like appearance, Blue-eyed Grass is actually a perennial wildflower and a member of the Iris family that typically reaches 6 to 12 inches (15–30 cm).
Blue-eyed Grass flowers usually are a vibrant violet-blue to deep purple. Each flower features a bright golden-yellow center (the "eye").
Fun Facts
Because it isn't a true grass, Blue-eyed Grass plants often are overlooked until it blooms. Once the flowers appear, its lineage as a "miniature iris" becomes obvious.
Despite its small size, Blue-eyed Grass is a favorite for small native bees and hoverflies seeking nectar and pollen in late spring.
