Coast Morning Glory

Scientific Name:
Calystegia macrostegia
Description

Coast Morning Glory is a vine with large, trumpet-shaped flowers that are usually white to pale pink, sometimes with delicate pinkish-purple stripes on the underside.

Coast Morning Glory prefers full sun but it is very tough. It can handle wind, salt spray, and poor soil.

Coast Morning Glory thrives in coastal sage scrub and chaparral communities. It is exceptionally well-adapted to rocky, well-draining soils and salty sea air. So you can find Coast Morning Glory along coastal trails in Point Lobos.

Fun Facts

Coast Morning Glory is found exclusively along the coast of Southern and Central California, the Channel Islands, and south into Baja California.

Coast Morning Glory is a "fire follower." After a wildfire, it is often one of the first plants to sprout from its deep, woody rootstock, helping to stabilize charred slopes and prevent erosion
