Enteroctopus dofleini
Description
Largest octopus species with a reddish-colored body weighing up to 22.7 kg (50 lbs) and 4.6 m (15 ft) in length. It has 8 long arms (not tentacles!) with over 2,000 suction cups.
Behaviors
The giant pacific octopus changes color with skin cells called “chromatophores” to blend in with its environment. It is extremely intelligent, and can open jars and play with toys.
Fun Facts
Baby giant octopuses are the size of a grain of rice.
