The California Sagebrush is an aromatic sunflower family shrub growing in our coastal areas, as well as some curious select spots in our inland hills and mountains. With spring rains bringing vibrant growth, we can notice the greenish white color of its soft smooth leaves. Also known as, Artemisia calilfornica, this shrub provides shelter and food for some of the animal life living in our coastal scrub plant community, like the western fence lizard, native bees, and even the Northern flicker has been spotted within the a big California sagebrush shrub in the Reserve!
