Point Lobos is a State Natural and State Marine Reserve that protects both the land and the ocean adjacent to it.  This area is known as a Marine Protected Area (MPA) and comprises most of the Reserve at Point Lobos.  While the Reserve hosts 550 fully protected land acres, its protected underwater area is over eighteen times that size, at 9,907 acres.
