Sea Otter at Whalers Cove

Video

Take a moment to make some observations of this sea otter and its surroundings at Whalers Cove.  It looks like it may be playing, but it is doing something different.  What do you think this otter is up to? This sea otter is grooming!  Read this from our friends at Sea Otter Savvy (seaottersavvy.org), "Grooming fur is an essential behavior for sea otters. They rely on a well-groomed, dense fur coat to insulate them from the cold water of the northern Pacific Ocean. They spend hours each day rolling, somersaulting, and licking to keep their fur in good condition. An important part of being sea otter savvy is learning to recognize, appreciate, and respect the  behaviors they must do each day to stay healthy and fit."
