Description
Very small (up to 7.6 cm/3 inches in length) flying, nocturnal mammal with gray-brown fur. Fur is covered with a layer of white, giving is a "frosted" or "hoary" appearance.
Behaviors
Hoary bats are nocturnal, meaning they are most active during the night. They utilize echolocation, like SONAR, to locate their prey in the dark. Diet consists of flying insects like moths, beetles and dragonflies.
Fun Facts
Bats are the only kind of mammal that are true fliers. All others, like flying squirrels, glide but do not fly.
