Description
Medium-sized (up to 20 mm in length) insect with a reddish head and white or brown body that survives by feeding on damp, rotting wood. This termite species is one of the largest in North America.
Behaviors
Similar to ant colonies; termites perform specific jobs within the colony and a queen lays all of the eggs.
Fun Facts
These moisture-loving termites leave their nest after it rains, providing a handy banquet for birds who dine on the unprotected insects.
