Description

Small (up to 38 cm/15 in in length) grayish brown mammal with a white belly and round, white “cotton” tail. It is common prey for larger predatory mammals and birds.

 

Behaviors

To avoid predators, brush rabbits live in dense, brushy areas and only come out when they need to feed on grassy shrubs and woody plants. When frightened, they will thump a foot on the ground or make squealing noises.

Fun Facts

mart move! Brush rabbits do not create burrows, but they will use the holes and burrows built by other animals to escape predators. They also like taking dust baths to rid themselves of parasites.
