Description

32 cm / 12.6 in in length, with mixed brown plumage and a dark, curved, pointy beak.

Behaviors

Feeds on insects, spiders, seeds, and fruits and likes to dig in leaf litter. It rarely flies in the wide open, preferring to stay hidden in dense brush. During spring its complex song can be heard throughout the reserve.

The California thrasher is the largest in the thrasher family and the only one with dark eyes.
