Hairy Woodpecker

Description

25cm/10 inches in length, with a white chest, black and white spotted wings and a strong, narrow, black beak that it uses to create holes in trees to search for insects. Males have a red patch on their head.

Behaviors

The hairy woodpecker mainly feeds on insects, insect larvae, berries, and occasionally nuts. Both males and females will incubate eggs and feed the young once hatched.
